Coach Dustin has developed a strong connection to volleyball through coaching, recreational play, and supporting his daughters in competitive volleyball. For the past five years, he has regularly played in indoor and beach open gyms and occasionally competed in beach tournaments.
With approximately 10 years of coaching experience, Coach Dustin has worked with girls ranging from 11U through 16U. He has coached recreational, school, and national-level club teams, serving as both a head coach and an assistant coach. At OVA, he assists with a 13s team.
Some of his most rewarding coaching experiences have come from watching young athletes develop and seeing their hard work become confidence and success on and off the court. Volleyball became an important part of his family when his oldest daughter discovered the sport in third grade. Coach Dustin had the opportunity to coach her and watch her grow into a successful high school and collegiate athlete. She helped lead her high school team to a state championship, earned Player of the Year and Player of the Game honors, and now plays indoor and beach volleyball at Arizona Christian University.
Coach Dustin believes volleyball is an excellent way to develop a well-rounded person. He emphasizes self-discipline, teamwork, dedication, competitiveness, confidence, accountability, and strong fundamentals. While his coaching style is fun and supportive, he also expects focus and effort. Every touch matters, and how athletes practice becomes how they play.
His goal is for every athlete to finish the season as a better volleyball player, teammate, and person. With younger athletes, he especially focuses on developing game-ready skills and positive habits that prepare them for higher levels of competition.
Beyond the court, Coach Dustin enjoys spending time with his five daughters, who range in age from 2 to 18. He loves teaching, playing with, and supporting their interests. He also enjoys hunting whenever the opportunity arises.
